Anti-corruption branch of the central research agency on Friday arrested Sumathi Ravichandran, Chennai Regional Passport Officer (RPO), argued for taking a bribe of Rs 9,000 to a candidate’s passport through a reseller - travel agent in T Nagar. They arrested her husband, R Ravichandran, health officer in Chennai Corporation on Saturday to dedicate resellers. Two retailers - Fathimeen Muzaffar, director of Ahmed’s world travels and the daughter of PM Previous IUML of Abdul Samad, and Raju, owner of the Raja in Triplicane travels - were also arrested. A case was registered under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption act, 1988. Sumathi and were produced before Fathimeen K Naganathan, principal special judge for CBI cases, at his residence on Saturday and sent in judicial custody. Sumathi told a judge that the case was sold with deception ¢ or against it, and asked the hospital to admit as she suffered from severe back pain. However, adequate medical facilities were available in the court prison Puzhal. Ravichandran Raju and must still be submitted. Raju was arrested by the city police last year on a fake passport case.
